In the Enterprise of the Future, the guiding principle of Organization is:

  • Effective, efficient and pervasive collaboration

The four focus areas for Organization are:

  • Systems Thinking
  • People

  • Work

  • Collaboration

The attributes of Systems Thinking are:

  • The principles of complex adaptive systems are understood and applied

  • Self-organization is encouraged and supported

  • Organizational boundaries are minimized

  • The workforce understands, expects, promotes, and manages change

The attributes of People are:

  • The right expertise can be tapped when needed

  • Social Network Analysis is practiced and applied

 The attributes of Work are:

  • Business processes, including processes for making business decisions, are understood and continually improved

  • Work process automation is maximized; administrative and non-value-added burdens are minimized

The attributes of Collaboration are:

  • Principles and practices for engaging external partners and stakeholders are widely deployed

  • People actively participate in cross-boundary learning groups relevant to their expertise

  • Techniques for successful virtual collaboration are practiced and refined

  • Open communications and the free flow of knowledge across the enterprise are practiced
